Cardiac Calcium Scoring

Tanner Heart Care has powerful tools that help doctors diagnose heart disease before you have a cardiac event. One of these tools is a procedure called a cardiac CT calcium score scan.

How the score works

When you have calcification in your arteries — known as atherosclerosis or coronary artery disease (CAD) — it narrows the arteries that supply oxygen-rich blood to your heart. This puts you at risk for a heart attack.

Cardiac CT calcium scoring, also called coronary calcium scoring, relies on computed tomography (a CT or CAT scan), which uses X-rays and a powerful computer to scan and generate clear images of your bones, internal organs, soft tissue and blood vessels. A coronary CT calcium scoring scan allows your doctor to see if you have calcification in your coronary arteries and, if so, how much.

Understanding your score

A negative cardiac calcium score means you do not have calcification. A positive score means you may need more diagnostic tests or interventions to prevent a potentially serious heart attack or heart disease.

Helping Loved Ones Resistant to Hospice Care
Helping Loved Ones Resistant to Hospice Care

Having a loved one nearing the end of life can be a difficult time for both the patient and their family members. Oftentimes, hospice care is recommended as a way to provide comfort and support during this difficult transition. However, some loved ones may be resistant to hospice care and may not understand the benefits it can provide. By understanding their fears and concerns, answering their questions and more, families can help their loved ones receive the care they need.
