Pulmonary Rehabilitation

Having trouble breathing and can’t do the things you used to do? There’s hope. The pulmonary rehabilitation program is just like cardiac rehab, but for your lungs. It can:

  • Improve your shortness of breath
  • Improve your breathing effort
  • Reduce anxiety related to your breathing problems
  • Help you do the things you love to do

Who is the program for?

Pulmonary rehabilitation can help patients with:

  • Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)
  • Bronchiectasis
  • Pulmonary fibrosis

What does the program entail?

At Tanner Health, pulmonary rehab is a comprehensive three-step program that helps you make the most of the lung function you have. Most patients start with 16 sessions, with exercise two times a week, but most insurance covers up to 36 visits a year, as needed.

Monitored and supervised exercise

We design a physical activity plan approved by your doctor, specifically for you and your needs, to help improve your stamina and muscle strength.

Education

We teach you practical strategies, from breathing retraining and how to use inhalers to oxygen therapy and the role of diet and weight management.

Psychosocial support

You don’t have to go through this alone. We can also connect you to counseling so you can talk through your struggles.

Scheduling pulmonary rehab

You’ll need a physician’s order to start pulmonary rehab. All we need is:

  • A referral from your primary care physician or pulmonologist
  • Your pulmonary function test (PFT) results from within the past 12 months
  • A diagnosis of COPD, bronchiectasis or pulmonary fibrosis
  • A history and physical from within the last 90 days

Referring physicians may call 770-812-8289 for more information or fax their order to 770-812-8369.
