Tanner Serves Up New Patient Meal Ordering App

Tanner Health System is serving up an improved dining experience for its hospitalized patients with the a new app for ordering meals. female patient eating hospital meal

Starting in mid-January, patients in the system’s five hospitals can download the CBORD patient meal ordering app at the beginning of their stay on their mobile phones or tablets. Before each meal, they can make their meal selections directly in the app instead of completing the current paper menu forms.

Further personalizing the dining experience, patients can also see photos of the available food choices — making meals more appetizing — and see how the choices compare in nutritional content, including percentages of fat, carbohydrates, sodium and protein. Menu offerings are tailored to each patient’s dietary guidelines, tracking their progress toward their nutrition goals each day, such as the percent of the Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA) of sodium in a healthy diet, as set by the Food and Nutrition Board of the National Academy of Sciences.

“Mealtimes are important daily milestones for our patients during their stays, and good nutrition is essential to healing,” said Shauntel Ragland, RD, LD, food and nutrition services director for Tanner. “We want our patients to look forward to their next meal and know what they can expect. If they are pleased, they are more likely to consume their meal and the nutrients it provides, continuing with their recovery and healing.”

With the new app, patients can submit their orders at any time — including ahead of tests, exams and other procedures — avoiding meal delays.

Patients without a mobile phone or tablet — or without family members who can assist them with ordering on the app — will be contacted by a Hospitality Associate to complete their order.
