Newsweek Rating Celebrates Maternity Hospitals With Superior Birth Days

Birth days at Tanner Medical Center/Carrollton are great starts for moms and their babies, according to Newsweek’s Best Maternity Hospitals 2020. The national publication recognized the facility among 231 superior maternity hospitals across the country.

Newsweek partnered with The Leapfrog Group, a national nonprofit organization that reports on the safety and quality performance of U.S. healthcare facilities, to develop the maternity report and others in its annual healthcare ranking series.

According to the report, the Best Maternity Hospitals 2020 are those that meet “tough standards for excellence in maternity care: hospitals that have low rates of C-section, episiotomy and early elective deliveries, and follow important protocols to protect moms and babies.”

Other considerations include bilirubin screenings for infants to detect jaundice — which can lead to brain damage and various disabilities.

“Every birthday is exciting, rewarding and the opportunity to do what we do best — care for our patients,” said Sandy Sundling, RN, maternity services director at Tanner. “We provide our moms and babies with the highest level of care and support, and it is gratifying to be recognized for that by Newsweek and Leapfrog.”
