Robotic Surgery

Robotic-assisted surgery puts our skilled surgeons at the helm of the latest minimally invasive surgical innovation. It allows surgeons to operate with even more precision, giving you better results and a more comfortable recovery.

How robotic surgery works

Robotic-assisted surgery does not mean that a robot will be performing your operation. Rather, a surgeon operates from a console in the operating suite.

The robot is equipped with tiny, finely tuned instruments. These instruments are inserted through a series of small incisions.

The console accounts for tremors in the surgeon’s movements and gives the surgeon greater dexterity. It also provides surgeons a clear, three-dimensional view, so they can operate in unparalleled precision.

The benefits of robotic surgery

With robotic-assisted surgery, you’ll enjoy:

  • Smaller incisions
  • Enhanced precision and control for the surgeon
  • Faster recovery
  • Fewer complications
  • Less blood loss
  • Less injury to tissue
  • Less risk of infection
  • Minimal scarring
  • Reduced pain
  • Shorter hospital stays

Robotic surgery services at Tanner

We offer a range of robotic-assisted surgical options, including:

  • Colorectal surgery
  • Esophagogastric surgery
  • Hernia repair
  • Laparoscopic appendectomy
  • Laparoscopic gallbladder surgery (cholecystectomy)
  • Laparoscopically assisted vaginal hysterectomy
  • Partial nephrectomy

  • Prostatectomy
  • Removal of fibroids (myomectomy)
  • Total vaginal hysterectomy (TVH)

Since robotic-assisted surgery means smaller incisions and less blood loss, many of these options allow you to go home the same day as your procedure. So you can recover in the comfort of your own home.

Two destinations for robotic surgery

We offer robotic-assisted surgery at our surgery centers in Carrollton and Villa RicaBoth facilities are designed to ensure the comfort of our patients and their loved ones. They offer private pre-op and post-op rooms and both facilities are fully accredited by The Joint Commission.

Advancing Your Recovery From Surgery

Surgery isn't the ordeal it used to be.

Minimally invasive procedures — made possible through advances in medicine and technology such as robotic surgery systems — allow physicians to work with more precise tools through smaller incisions, allowing for a faster and safer recovery with less discomfort for patients.

In fact, about 90% of all surgical cases performed at Tanner Health System are on a same-day basis, with the patient discharged from the hospital to recover at home within 24-hours of their procedure.
