Infection Prevention FAQ

Can I bring someone along with me?

For the safety of our patients and staff, visitor restrictions may be put into place at Tanner facilities and hospitals at any time as necessary. Please see our current Visitor Guidelines for specifics.

What should I do to protect myself?

COVID-19 is a contagious disease that remains a threat to people in our service area, along with colds, flu and other viruses. It is spread primarily through respiratory particles released during coughing, sneezing and even talking. The best prevention is to avoid exposure. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends the following precautions to prevent disease spread:

  • Wash your hands often.
  • Avoid close contact with others if you or they are sick.
  • Cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue, discard the tissue and then wash your hands.
  • Avoid touching your face.

Will I be asked about recent exposures?

When your appointment is scheduled, you may be asked questions that include symptoms of or recent exposure to a wide array of viruses, including chicken pox, mumps, flu, and more.

Is it safe to come to Tanner facilities?

Yes, the safety of our patients, staff and visitors is Tanner’s priority. Infection prevention is – and always has been – what we do every day, with every patient, at Tanner.

Precautions include:

  • Appropriate use of telehealth visits and in-person appointments;
  • Potential screening of Tanner Medical Group patients for symptoms and exposure to a variety of viral infections;
  • Hand sanitizing stations at all entries, exits and other critical areas within hospitals and Tanner Medical Group practices;
  • Social distance accommodations during patient flow, including appointment scheduling;
  • Rigorous and frequent cleaning and sanitizing of Tanner facilities, equipment and surfaces throughout the system, including a robot utilizing ultraviolet light;
  • Hand hygiene protocols, as recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), for healthcare staff;
  • Visitor guidelines as outlined here in all five hospitals;
  • Daily monitoring of all healthcare staff for illness.
