Leadership Committee

Leadership Committee

No one understands the challenges facing Haralson County better than the people who live here. That’s why Healthy Haralson is community-led.

The Healthy Haralson Leadership Committee works to ensure all residents have equitable opportunities to get healthy and live well. The committee focuses on four key areas:

  • Healthy minds and bodies
  • Community resources
  • Senior needs
  • Substance misuse

Together, task force members identify barriers to health and develop innovative, local solutions.

To get involved or learn more, contact Bree Puckett, outreach operations manager, at 770-812-8811 or cpuckett@tanner.org.

Healthy Minds and Bodies

Whether you’re managing heart disease or diabetes — or simply working to build healthier routines — support matters. Healthy Haralson promotes healthy habits for families by offering education, prevention tools and access to Haralson County fitness programs designed to keep residents active.

Through Healthy Haralson, residents have access to free classes focused on healthy living, disease prevention and chronic condition management. Many of these initiatives include Haralson County fitness programs that encourage physical activity for all ages.

Youth Mental Health Programs

All children deserve to thrive physically and emotionally.

Healthy Haralson helps families recognize the signs of mental health concerns while expanding access to behavioral health services for youth. Encouraging healthy habits for families includes supporting emotional well-being alongside physical health.

When a child experiences a behavioral health crisis, early intervention and expert counseling are available.

Increasing Provider Resources

To help reduce barriers that are preventing Haralson County residents from receiving the care they need, Get Healthy, Live Well’s Healthy Haralson committee is working to increase provider resources to clinical and community services.

Higgins General Hospital in Bremen

Haralson County’s only hospital, Higgins General Hospital, joined Tanner Health in 1998. Since then, Tanner has invested substantially in the critical access facility by:

  • Expanding the hospital’s emergency department and diagnostic imaging unit.
  • Improving its inpatient facilities.
Higgins General Hospital
  • Building a new medical office building to house the many additional specialist services that have come to Bremen through the community’s affiliation with Tanner.

We have continued to invest in health care throughout Haralson County, with three primary care practices:

We also provide pediatric services and an urgent care providing walk-in care for minor medical emergencies and more. Most recently, Tanner built a new surgical services unit at Higgins General Hospital. The unit expands access to needed surgical care, including:

  • Gastroenterology screenings like colonoscopies
  • General surgical services
  • Reconstructive and plastic surgery
  • Ear, nose and throat care
  • Eye surgery
  • And more

Additionally, we have also established a primary stroke center at Higgins General Hospital, making lifesaving stroke care more readily available for Haralson County residents.

Through Healthy Haralson, improved access to medical care in Haralson County will remain a priority. We are continuing to find innovative ways to improve access to primary care providers, dentists and mental health providers while promoting existing resources through our community resource guide.

Senior Needs

A long, active and independent life is everyone’s hope.

Substance Misuse

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 60% of Georgia’s 55 counties with drug overdose rates higher than the national average were in rural areas.

Healthy Haralson partners with local agencies to address substance misuse in Haralson County. First responders are trained to administer naloxone (Narcan), helping reverse opioid overdoses and save lives.

These coordinated efforts strengthen Haralson County fitness programs, prevention initiatives and community-wide health efforts that promote safer, healthier environments for everyone.
