Pastoral and spiritual care in times of need

We understand that a hospital stay can be a challenging experience filled with fear, anxiety and loneliness. Tanner chaplains are dedicated to providing spiritual care and emotional support to patients, their families and friends.

Our chaplains are here to meet your spiritual care needs by listening to your concerns and helping you find ways to stay connected to your source of strength. By offering a calm, non-judgmental presence, chaplains provide a safe space for patients to explore what matters to them.

Inside of church

Through prayer, administering sacraments, bereavement care and discussions on advance directives, chaplains offer pastoral care that attends to the whole person: body, mind and spirit. This holistic approach ensures pastoral care is integrated into all aspects of support.

Engaging outside clergy for spiritual care

Tanner chaplains can reach out to outside clergy upon request by a patient or family member. This is especially important if the chaplain is unable to administer particular sacraments or rituals or if the patient wishes to have their own clergyperson present to provide spiritual care.

Chapel and spiritual resources

Most Tanner Health  facilities have a chapel or quiet space dedicated to spiritual care. These spaces are available 24 hours a day for use by our patients, families and staff.

Special services may also be conducted in our chapel, which is equipped with sacred texts and other spiritual literature. These resources can be requested or found in the chapel.

Contacting a chaplain for spiritual care

During regular business hours, our staff chaplains can be contacted at 770-812-9461. After regular business hours and on weekends, dial "0" and the operator will page the on-call chaplain for spiritual care support.
