Joint Commission Accreditation

Joint Commission Accreditation

Tanner Health is proud to earn Joint Commission Accreditation, a nationally recognized symbol of quality and safety. Joint Commission Accreditation demonstrates that our hospitals and programs meet rigorous performance expectations designed to protect patients and strengthen outcomes.

Tanner Medical Center/Carrollton, Tanner Medical Center/Villa Rica, Higgins General Hospital in Bremen and Willowbrooke at Tanner, along with our home health and hospice programs,  have earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval. Our newest hospital, Tanner Medical Center/East Alabama in Wedowee, is accredited by the Alabama Department of Public Health. Achieving Joint Commission Accreditation requires compliance with detailed Joint Commission standards focused on infection prevention, medication management, leadership and patient safety.

Hospitals seek Joint Commission Accreditation because it validates their commitment to safe, high-quality care and continuous healthcare quality improvement. The accreditation process includes rigorous, unannounced on-site surveys conducted by expert reviewers who evaluate how well facilities meet Joint Commission standards and deliver safe care.

Some people ask about the difference between The Joint Commission and JCAHO. JCAHO was the former name, the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations. Today, the organization is simply known as The Joint Commission, and it continues to provide accreditation and Joint Commission resources that help hospitals improve performance and patient safety.

Through ongoing use of Joint Commission resources and a strong focus on healthcare quality improvement, Tanner Health reinforces its commitment to delivering care that meets national benchmarks and exceeds patient expectations.
