How Do You Judge Quality?

The quality of care you receive at a hospital — as well as the doctors you choose — have a direct impact on your health.

We measure our quality and patient safety by how well we compare to national standards and how well we meet your expectations.

The key elements of quality care include clinical experience, patient safety, continuous process review and evidenced-based medicine, as well as outcomes and patient satisfaction.

How do you measure hospital quality? Consider each of these questions:

Are Tanner hospitals accredited by The Joint Commission?

Tanner Health System’s Georgia hospitals, as well as Willowbrooke at Tanner, Tanner Home Health and Tanner Hospice Care, have earned accreditation from The Joint Commission, an independent not-for-profit accreditation organization, by demonstrating compliance with national standards for healthcare quality and safety in hospitals. Learn more about The Joint Commission.

Tanner Medical Center/East Alabama in Wedowee, Alabama, is accredited by the Alabama Department of Public Health.

Are Tanner hospitals highly rated by any national, independent organizations?

Media and consumer groups often publish guides to hospitals and healthcare choices in various cities. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution publishes the AJC Hospital Checkup. You can call the Georgia Department of Public Health or the Georgia Hospital Association for more information. We also invite you to ask your doctor what he or she thinks about any Tanner hospital.

Has Tanner and its hospitals received any awards or other recognitions?

Tanner Health System, our hospitals and various programs have won numerous awards and recognitions, including being named to Truven Health Analytics’ 15 Top Health Systems list four times. View our latest awards, honors and recognitions.

Does your doctor have privileges at a Tanner hospital?

Ask if your doctor has privileges at a Tanner hospital. This will determine whether he or she is permitted to admit patients to a Tanner hospital.

Does Tanner continuously review and improve its quality of care and patient satisfaction?

We encourage all healthcare team members to continuously ask these questions: “How are we doing?” and “Can we do it better?” At Tanner, this is built into all aspects of the quality health care that we provide. It is also a key part of Tanner’s Mission, Vision and Values.
