Heartburn Treatment Center

Heartburn occurs when stomach acid escapes and flows up into the esophagus, causing a burning sensation in your chest and throat.

What causes heartburn?

Heartburn can be triggered by certain foods and drinks, as well as some physical conditions such as pregnancy and obesity, anxiety and depression.

Many people suffer from heartburn, however, if you experience it often, it could be a symptom of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).

What is GERD?

GERD is a digestive disorder that occurs when the small muscular opening at the end of your esophagus that leads to your stomach is not working properly, allowing stomach acid to be released.

Heartburn signs and symptoms

Symptoms for heartburn include:

  • Persistent sore throat
  • Hoarseness
  • Chest pain
  • Pain when swallowing
