Tanner Medical Center/Carrollton and Tanner Medical Center/Villa Rica have received the Georgia Perinatal Quality Collaborative (GaPQC) Impact Award for improving outcomes related to high blood pressure during pregnancy.

High blood pressure is one of the leading causes of pregnancy complications for both mothers and babies. Conditions such as gestational hypertension and preeclampsia can develop without obvious symptoms but may lead to serious health risks if not treated early.

The Georgia Perinatal Quality Collaborative Impact Award recognizes hospitals and care teams across the state that demonstrate a strong commitment to improving maternal and infant health outcomes through evidence-based care practices and safety protocols.

Tanner’s Women and Children’s Services teams were recognized for their work to better identify, monitor and treat hypertension during pregnancy and after delivery. These efforts help reduce risk and support safer outcomes for both mother and baby.

Malia Poole, MSN, RN, accepted the award on behalf of Tanner Health’s Women and Children’s Services teams.

“At Tanner, we are focused on providing safe, high-quality care for every patient,” said Moe Boles, vice president of child maternal services at Tanner Health. “This recognition reflects the dedication of our teams to improving maternal health and supporting families in our community.”

Commitment to maternal safety

Tanner continues to strengthen its approach to maternity care by participating in statewide quality initiatives and implementing proven safety practices.

Additional recognitions and quality measures include:

  • Both Tanner Medical Center/Carrollton and Tanner Medical Center/Villa Rica have earned the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services “Birthing-Friendly” Hospital designation, recognizing participation in national maternal safety and quality improvement programs
  • Tanner Medical Center/Villa Rica holds a Level One maternal designation from the Georgia Department of Public Health, confirming the facility meets established standards for safe, low-risk maternal care
  • Tanner maintains low-risk cesarean section rates below the national benchmark of 23.9%, with 2025 rates of 18.2% in Villa Rica and 19.6% in Carrollton
