Shazib Khawaja, MD, FACC, FSCAI, FSVM, a board-certified cardiovascular disease and interventional cardiology specialist with Tanner Heart & Vascular Specialists, has been named a 2026 Top Doctor in Interventional Cardiology by Atlanta magazine for the 17th consecutive year.
For nearly two decades, patients across west Georgia and east Alabama have turned to him for expert heart care during some of life’s most critical moments, and this year, his dedication to advancing cardiovascular care has once again earned recognition from his peers in the July 2026 issue of Atlanta magazine.
As chief of interventional cardiology and chair of heart and vascular services at Tanner Health, Dr. Khawaja has helped shape a nationally recognized cardiovascular program while continuing to provide compassionate, patient-centered care. His latest recognition reflects not only his clinical expertise but also the trust and respect he has earned from fellow physicians throughout metro Atlanta.
Each year, Atlanta magazine’s Top Doctors list is compiled through an independent peer-review survey conducted by Professional Research Services (PRS). Physicians across the region nominate colleagues they would trust to care for their own family members. The publication is not involved in the voting process, and doctors cannot pay to be included.
“Being recognized by fellow physicians for 17 consecutive years is an extraordinary achievement and a testament to the trust Dr. Khawaja has earned throughout his career,” said Loy Howard, president and CEO of Tanner Health. “His commitment to innovation, exceptional patient care and mentoring the next generation of cardiovascular specialists continues to elevate the level of heart care available at Tanner and throughout our region.”
After earning his medical degree from the University of South Alabama, Dr. Khawaja completed a residency in internal medicine at Albany Medical College in Albany, New York; a fellowship in cardiovascular medicine at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, New Hampshire; and an interventional cardiology subspecialty fellowship at the University of Minnesota/Minneapolis Heart Institute. Dr. Khawaja also received advanced training in peripheral vascular interventions at the Arizona Heart Institute.
Today, he cares for patients at Tanner Heart & Vascular Specialists with offices in Carrollton, Villa Rica and Bremen, Georgia, and Wedowee, Alabama.
