“It makes you want to reach out to people more,” she said. “To help people and let them know that they’re not in this journey alone.”
Looking back, Walker-Dye sees survivorship as more than overcoming a diagnosis. It is about finding strength in adversity, continuing forward despite uncertainty and refusing to allow obstacles to define who you are. “Survivorship means overcoming obstacles,” she said.
Today, she is focused on living life fully, embracing each day and encouraging other women who may be facing challenges of their own. Her story serves as a reminder that every woman deserves support, compassion and access to care when she needs it most. More importantly, it reminds others that even during life’s most difficult seasons, hope remains possible.
And if Walker-Dye could sit across from another woman hearing the words she once heard, her message would be simple.
“Don’t give up,” she said.
For her, surviving cancer twice is not the end of the story. It is proof of what is possible when determination, support and compassionate care come together at exactly the right time.
