Breast Reconstruction

For women who face breast cancer, breast reconstruction is often a vital part of their treatment — both physically and emotionally.

Our dedicated team collaborates with Tanner Cancer Care's breast surgeons, oncologists, hematologists and radiation oncologists to restore a woman's confidence following a mastectomy or lumpectomy.

Utilizing cutting-edge reconstructive surgery techniques and implants, our skilled surgeons strive to recreate a woman's breasts to resemble and feel like your natural ones.

What is the timing of breast reconstruction?

Depending on your surgery and treatment plan, breast reconstruction can be performed immediately after breast removal or several months later. Some women choose to wait and have reconstruction later.

Discuss with your cancer team to determine the best option for you.

How is breast reconstruction done?

There are two main methods for breast reconstruction following mastectomy.

For the implant-based method, we commonly use a technique called tissue expansion. During surgery, a tissues expansion device is inserted beneath your chest tissue. The tissue expander is gradually filled with saline after healing is complete, creating space for the final implant to form the breast mound.

Depending on your situation, we may also use a flap technique that utilizes your own tissue to reconstruct your breasts. Known as autologous reconstruction, these techniques use tissue from another part of your body to create a new breast.

These are common — and completely normal — questions. The good news is that a Pap smear test is quick, simple and one of the most effective ways to prevent cervical cancer. Let’s walk through everything you need to know so you feel calm, informed and ready for your appointment.
