Why Trauma Matters in Primary Care

An estimated 59 percent of adults have experienced at least one traumatic event during their childhood, according to the National Council for Behavioral Health.

And experiencing trauma can lead to physical and mental health problems, including addiction.

A study by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Kaiser Permanente found that people who experienced more traumatic events were at an increased risk for alcoholism, chronic diseases, depression, domestic violence, drug abuse, suicide attempts and more.
