New mothers, rejoice!

Mother with baby doing yogaTanner Health System’s Get Healthy, Live Well is offering a new class that will give you the opportunity to work out, bond with your baby and relax at the same time.

Registration is now open for Baby and Me Yoga classes at Tanner, providing mothers with fun and stress-free yoga time with their newborns. According to an article published in The Practicing Midwife journal, postnatal yoga can help mothers rebuild weakened pelvic floor muscles, strengthen abdominal muscles, and alleviate back and neck pain. For babies, yoga can aid digestion, alleviate colic, improve sleep patterns and strengthen tiny limbs.

"Being a busy parent and juggling the day-to-day demands of motherhood, it is so helpful to have a space and time that’s reserved for your baby to bond, relax and grow together,” said Baby and Me Yoga instructor Serena Robbins. “It’s important to take time to focus on your overall wellness so you can fully show up in your daily life."

Get Healthy, Live Well’s Baby and Me Yoga classes meet weekly for a total of six one-hour-long sessions and is suitable for babies ages 6 weeks to 1 year of age. Parents are asked to make sure their infant's head is supported during the activity.

The cost of the six-week class is $35. Classes will be held on Friday mornings. Mothers may bring their own yoga mats or borrow one at the gym. Mats are cleaned and sanitized after each class.
