Nurse Orientation Program

Tanner Health System provides a comprehensive, weeklong orientation program for all new nurses entering Tanner’s workforce.

Typically, each nurse will begin working at Tanner on the first Monday of the month by attending orientation at Tanner Medical Center/Carrollton. During the following four days, the nurse will spend time learning with various subject matter experts. These learning opportunities will include hands-on equipment and computer system activities, as well as informational presentations.

After completing this orientation phase, each nurse will be assigned a preceptor who has been trained and has the skills to help the nurse progress toward becoming independent in his or her work area. The nurse will begin by observing and will gradually take on a full workload while another nurse observes them.

A nurse who starts on the third Monday of the month will meet with the department’s nurse educator for an abbreviated orientation. On the following first Monday of the month, he or she will complete the one-week program as described above.

Our orientation program is one of many ways that Tanner is committed to recruiting and retaining nursing staff.
