Vance Raham, MD, Provides Addiction Expertise at Willowbrooke at Tanner

Vance Raham, MD, lead addictionologist at Willowbrooke at Tanner and for Tanner Health System, is using his expertise to help people with a dependency on alcohol, prescription pain medicines or other illicit substances.

“My primary focus is helping any patient or potential patient who is in the throws of addictive use, who is trying to get into recovery, who may be stalled in recovery or who is struggling with relapse,” said Dr. Raham. “I am also interested in helping patients with a military background who may be struggling with addiction — especially in conjunction with PTSD.”

Vance Raham, MDDr. Raham, who is board-certified in addiction medicine, spent 10 years in the U.S. Air Force. He started out as enlisted and later became an officer before becoming a physician. He earned his medical degree from the Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis and completed residencies at Methodist Hospital of Indiana in Indianapolis and Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is a member of the Georgia Society of Addiction Medicine and the American Society of Addiction Medicine.

Dr. Raham, who has himself been in recovery for more than 15 years for an opioid addiction, feels it is important to share that information up front with his patients.

“I want my patients to know that I have been in their shoes and understand their frustrations,” said Dr. Raham. “Not only do I have 14 years of experience with the entire addiction and recovery process as a physician working with patients, but also as a former patient.”

At Willowbrooke at Tanner, Dr. Raham helps evaluate patients who have addictions, then works with each patient to establish a personalized treatment plan. That plan may include inpatient detox, partial hospitalization, an outpatient program — such as Journey, offered through the Willowbrooke Counseling Center — or Regain at Willowbrooke, a recovery program for working professionals. Plans may also include dependency aftercare, sober living and more.

Along with addiction services, Willowbrooke at Tanner provides an extensive line of behavioral health care, including inpatient care, partial hospitalization and a host of outpatient treatment services, such as outpatient counseling and therapy services to treat a wide range of behavioral health conditions, including anger management, anxiety disorders, attention deficit hyperactive disorder (ADHD), depression, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and more.
