Should You See a Doctor for Joint Pain?

Joint pain may be caused by an injury, infection or by inflammation that could be the symptom of a disease like arthritis. Pain in the shoulder, neck, knee or fingers often signals joint pain.

Signs of joint pain include:

  • Swelling
  • Tenderness
  • Warmth
  • Stiffness
  • Weakness
  • Loss of range of motion

When to See an Orthopedist

If you’ve been experiencing the kind of joint paint that makes simple, daily activities like climbing stairs or carrying grocery bags difficult, it may be time to see an orthopedist.

Orthopedic doctors can find out what’s causing your pain by ordering lab and imaging tests like X-rays, ultrasound and MRI. In some cases, a minimally invasive procedure like arthroscopy is used to visualize, diagnose and treat problems within the joint.

With the proper diagnosis, your doctor can then recommend non-invasive treatments like medication and physical therapy or a surgical procedure if necessary.

Fortunately, quality care is available close to home. The Carrollton Orthopaedic Clinic is ranked #1 in Georgia and in the top 10% nationwide by Healthgrades, the nation’s leader in healthcare ratings.

Orthopedic specialties include:

  • Hand, wrist and elbow
  • Joint replacement
  • MRI diagnostic imaging
  • Non-operative spine
  • Shoulder care
  • Spine care
  • Sports medicine
