New Carb Counting Class from Tanner Can Help You Keep Blood Sugar in Check

05.15.2019

Managing blood sugar can seem like a mystery. For the thousands of people in west Georgia and east Alabama living with diabetes, every prick of the glucose meter can yield another twist in the plot.

More than just a number, high blood sugar can lead to a host of complications, including vascular issues, heart disease, blindness, amputations, kidney disease and more.

Now, Tanner Health System is working to help residents solve the mystery and take control of their blood sugar with a new class.

Carb Counting, from Tanner’s Get Healthy, Live Well, is a free, two-hour class that empowers attendees to use their diets to control their blood sugar by finding carbs in the foods they’re eating, substituting certain foods for better options and understanding how carbs affect blood sugar and overall health.

Classes will be held in the evenings, from 6 to 8 p.m., in Carrollton and Villa Rica. Each class is led by a licensed and registered dietitian from Tanner who is experienced in working with people who have diabetes and can provide special insight into ways individuals can turn the tables on high blood sugar.

The class is free to attend, and spots are available now. More information and online registration is available at tanner.org/carbs.
