Keep Calm, Moms: Tanner Offers Prenatal Yoga

04.08.2019

If you’re an expecting mom, your plate may be overflowing with all the things you have to get done before your little one arrives.

While picking a pediatrician, shopping for baby gear and getting the nursery just right may be some of the priorities on your to do list, it’s also important to take time out for yourself. That’s why Tanner Health System’s Get Healthy, Live Well is introducing Prenatal Yoga classes to help keep you balanced.

According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), yoga reduces stress, improves flexibility, and encourages stretching and focused breathing. Tanner’s Prenatal Yoga will prepare your body — and your mind — for labor and delivery. Whether you’re a yoga novice or already have your own monogrammed yoga mat, Prenatal Yoga has something to offer you.

“With busy schedules and modern technology, our minds are constantly preparing for what is next,” said Prenatal Yoga instructor Rachel Warren. “Meditation helps prepare your mind for what is now.”

Each class will focus on different techniques to help develop or deepen your meditation practice.

“Practicing Prenatal Yoga helps create a sense of balance with all the changes of your body physically, mentally and emotionally,” Warren said.

The class, which meets weekly for six weeks, will also help strengthen and tone the muscles needed for pregnancy, birth and postpartum fitness. The class includes a warm-up, plus cardiorespiratory, muscular strength and endurance segments. It also includes flexibility and relaxation exercises.

The cost of the six-week class is $35. Classes will be held Tuesday mornings in Carrollton. Classes will also be held Tuesday nights in Villa Rica. Women may bring their own yoga mat or borrow one at the gym. Mats are cleaned and sanitized after each class.
