Breastfeeding and Pumping

At Tanner, we’re breastfeeding advocates. In fact, you could call us downright activists.

Tanner Health System wants the very best for your new baby, just as you do. That’s why we stress the importance of breastfeeding to new mothers. Turns out we’re not alone. Physicians and scientists worldwide agree that the best milk for a baby comes from the baby’s mother. Cows’ milk is wonderful—for a baby cow!

But for humans, the most current research shows that the unique combination of nutrients, enzymes and infection-fighting substances in your breast milk is best for your baby. Research suggests that breastfed babies have higher IQs and lower incidences of ear infections, respiratory infections, intestinal infections, allergies, diabetes, some types of cancer, Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. If you are concerned about your ability to breastfeed, speak with your obstetrician about breastfeeding and ways to boost breast milk production.
