West Georgia Cares' Community Resource Guide

Finding the help you need is only a click away

The Community Foundation of West Georgia revolutionized the way those in need and the organizations serving them interacted when it introduced the West Georgia Resource Network in 2007.

Now, the foundation is enhancing functions of the community resource network as it evolves into West Georgia Cares.

“The West Georgia Cares community resource website is more user friendly for those in need and for area nonprofit organizations, governments and churches serving them,” said Kim Jones, president of the Community Foundation of West Georgia.

Help with food, shelter, utilities, education and training, child and adult care, physical and mental health services, substance abuse treatment, prescription drug costs and protective services are just some of the resources local residents can find on the West Georgia Cares website at westgeorgiacares.org

The website was created in partnership with Tanner Health System’s Get Healthy, Live Well, an initiative working to promote a healthy lifestyle and prevent chronic disease for residents of Carroll, Haralson and Heard counties.

In an effort to improve the community’s health, Get Healthy, Live Well provides a variety of free programs that offer valuable resources to west Georgians. They include tobacco cessation classes, chronic disease prevention and management programs, walking groups and more.

West Georgia Cares continues to offer area nonprofit organizations, governments and faith-based organizations help in managing their caseloads with more efficiency and effectiveness. The network also allows agencies to create visit reports, tracking how many people were served, pounds of food distributed and other factors required by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Reports recording where clients have been referred for help can be created as well.

“Local service organizations helping those in need in our community tell us that the West Georgia Resource Network has been a valuable tool for both the agencies and local residents in need,” said Jones. “Now, they will be able to enjoy even more features using West Georgia Cares.”

Organizations that have not participated in the West Georgia Resource Network or that have not switched to West Georgia Cares should contact the foundation at info@cfwg.net or 770.832.1462 to find out how they can become participants. There is an annual fee of $50 for each agency listed in the database. There is no fee for those in need who research assistance there.
