Harmony for Healing Music Therapy Program

The Harmony for Healing music therapy program was conceived in January 2008 with the mission to “think outside the box” about patient care and music’s healing power. Research has shown that music therapy interventions can help promote wellness, manage stress, alleviate pain, and actually promote physical rehabilitation. Music Therapy is an established healthcare profession that uses music to address physical, emotional, cognitive, and social needs of individuals of all ages. Music therapy improves the quality of life for persons who are well and meets the needs of children and adults with disabilities or illnesses.

A benefactor of Tanner Medical Foundation provided a gift to purchase a Steinway Grand piano for the new atrium of the Tanner Heart and Vascular Center, the venue for all Harmony for Healing programs. The donation also provided seed money to create the music therapy program. As the program becomes more established, the goal is to hire a full-time music therapist.
