Villa Rica and Bremen Merchants
Making a Difference

During October, which is breast cancer awareness month, merchants in Villa Rica and Bremen will help spread the word about the importance of early detection. When breast cancer is detected in the earlier stages of the disease, treatment is more successful and the survival rate is higher. On average, mammography will detect about 80 to 90% of breast cancers in women without symptoms.

“Merchants Making a Difference”, a community program of Tanner Medical Foundation, supports the women of Villa Rica and Bremen. Proceeds from the program will provide mammograms at Tanner Women’s Centers at Villa Rica and Bremen for women who cannot afford them. More than 50 merchants are participating in the 2007 program.

Each merchant has customized their participation in the program. For example, some of the merchants will donate a percentage of the sale of any pink merchandise during October.

“Two of my close friends survived breast cancer, so I’ve seen what a woman goes through from diagnosis to treatment and beyond,” Malinda McWilliams, co-owner of Plaza Pharmacy and program participant, says. “We are happy to support Tanner and the women of our community by participating.”
