AMVETS Post 99 Annual Golf Tournament for Charity raises $5,500 for Tanner Hospice Care
Golfers from across west Georgia came together on Saturday, June 6 for the AMVETS Post 99 Annual Golf Tournament for Charity, benefiting Tanner Hospice Care. For the third consecutive year in a row, AMVETS members voted for Tanner Hospice Care as their charity beneficiary and this year they presented Hospice a check for $5,500.
Tanner Hospice Care provides sensitive support for people in the final phase of a terminal illness. Hospice also gives support to family members as they prepare for a loved one’s loss. Hospice Care enables patients to carry on an alert, pain-free life and manage other symptoms so that their last days may be spent with dignity. Both medical and emotional assistance help patents prepare for death in an atmosphere of care and love.
"I was very pleased to see all who participated in this year’s event," said Melanie Simpson, office manager, AMVETS Post 99. "Even though things are tighter this year, we know that terminal illness does not slow down with the economy. Our participants realize that in a slow economy, it is important to continue supporting our community’s Hospice services and I am proud of them for coming out to show their support."
AMVETS is one of the nation’s leading veteran’s service organizations and is made up of men and women who have served their country in the armed forces. Members pride themselves on giving to the country and the community. Mike Pruitt, AMVETS Golf Tournament chairman, organized the fourth annual AMVETS Golf Tournament for Charity, held at the Lion Golf Club in Bremen. Close to 70 golfers participated in the tournament and enjoyed an awards banquet including a BBQ dinner and raffle at Post 99 immediately following the event.
"Contributions like this mean so much to us, especially during a recession," said Debbie Brock, director of Tanner Hospice Care. "Through the generosity of AMVETS Post 99 we will be able to provide Hospice care to anyone who needs it, regardless of their ability to pay. This is important now more than ever and we greatly appreciate the support of everyone who participated."
