First Annual Physician Musician Showcase a Success
Tanner Medical Foundation hosted the first annual Physician Musician Showcase on Tuesday, November 18 in the Atrium of Tanner Medical Center/Carrollton. Approximately 130 came out to support the event, benefiting Tanner’s Harmony for Healing Program and to hear musical performances by Tanner physicians.
Fifteen physicians showed their musical talents in 11 performances ranging from “If I Loved You” by Linda McCormick, M.D. singing soprano and accompanied by Terry Lowry on piano to a blues selection called “How Blue Can You Get” performed by Kelvin Burton, M.D. accompanied by Lawrence Price, M.D. on piano, David Rydzewski, M.D. on guitar, Howard Seeman, M.D. on guitar and John Zimmerman, M.D. on guitar. Terry Lowry, pianist and composer, served as the director and Charlie Hubbard, M.D. served as Master of Ceremonies.
Proceeds from the event will be used to continue Tanner’s Harmony for Healing Music Therapy Program, in which musicians perform in the Atrium of Tanner Medical Center/Carrollton. The Program was developed out of a desire to help caregivers, patients and their loved ones cope with the stressful times that often accompany an illness. Tanner’s Harmony for Healing program has already hosted a number of fine musicians including performers from the faculties and music departments of Auburn University, Clemson University and the University of West Georgia, as well as musicians from the community who have donated their time and talents. A Steinway grand piano, used in many Harmony for Healing performances, was generously donated by an anonymous donor in early 2008. Tanner Medical Foundation will continue to raise proceeds to support the Harmony for Healing Program, with the goal of eventually hiring a full-time music therapist.
"We are thrilled that so many of our supporters came out for this event," said Denise Taylor, President/CEO of Tanner Medical Foundation. "Performances by the Harmony for Healing Program provide a wonderful, soothing atmosphere in our hospital’s common area for our patients and their families. We appreciate the time and talents of our physicians and the support that so many have shown for this tremendous program."
