Annual Ruby C. Green Yard Sale Raises $3,200 for Indigent Mammograms
West Georgia Ambulance hosted the annual yard sale in memory of Ruby C. Green on November 8. A paramedic for West Georgia Ambulance, Ruby continued working even after she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Unfortunately, the cancer was in a very advanced stage when it was discovered, and Ruby did not survive. “She had a great heart,” Sharon Stanford of West Georgia Ambulance says of Ruby Green. Since Ruby’s death, the employees at West Georgia Ambulance have held an annual yard sale to raise funds for indigent mammograms at Tanner Women’s Center in Carrollton. This year’s sale raised $3,200. “We are happy to continue this yard sale year after year to keep her memory alive,” said Sharon.
Ruby has not only helped many women to receive mammograms who could otherwise not afford them, but she has also helped West Georgia Ambulance employees understand the importance of getting annual mammograms. “We’ve had several employees who have gone to have a test when they would have otherwise skipped it and had further testing because they have found lumps,” said Sharon. “Every year there is a new reason to continue this yard sale to support the Ruby C. Green Indigent Mammogram Fund.”
The Ruby C. Green Indigent Mammogram Fund, which was established through Tanner Medical Foundation, provides mammograms and other diagnostic tests for women who are unable to afford the tests. “We come in contact with people every day who need help. Ruby was always quietly helping those in need, and we know she would have been pleased about the establishment of this fund,” Sharon says.
