Tanner Rehab Facility is a specialized resource for helping people learn to adapt and go forward with their lives following a stroke, amputation, spinal cord injury, diagnosis of a neurological disorder, orthopedic procedure and more.
Located on the second floor of Tanner Medical Center/Carrollton—Tanner Health System’s flagship hospital—Tanner Rehab Facility provides a team approach to care, involving therapists, physicians, case managers, dietitians and the patient’s own loved ones to encourage healthy, independent living after discharge.
This team approach of qualified professionals delivering individualized care is designed to ensure the best possible outcome for each patient, providing you with the best possible opportunity to continue with an independent life.
About Tanner Rehab Facility
Tanner Rehab Facility is a 13,000-square-foot facility offering 20 private beds and a range of advanced, intensive therapies to help a patients recovering from a range of traumatic, orthopedic, neurologic or other injuries or conditions.
The facility offers 19 private rooms and a special 320-square-foot transitional living apartment in the style of an efficiency apartment, helping patients better learn how to live independently after discharge.
Tanner Rehab Facility also offers a spacious therapy and activity space, a dining facility and day room and more.
Tanner’s Team Approach
Tanner has a long history of rehabilitative excellence, with a team
of occupational therapists, physical therapists, speech therapists and
others working together to advance patient care.
The interdisciplinary team of medical professionals involved in each patient’s care includes:
- Admission coordinators, who work to facilitate the flow of
patient information from the referring physicians to ensure a complete
continuum of care
Occupational therapists, who focus on helping patients regain
essential self-care skills, such as grooming, eating and dressing, as
well as independent living skills
Physical therapists, who work to help improve strength, coordination, balance and mobility
Rehabilitation physicians, who work to create an individualized plan
of care for each patient to help them progress toward a safe discharge
Rehabilitation registered nurses, who provide around-the-clock care
and focus on helping patients with medication management, recovery and
activities of daily living
Speech therapists, who help to evaluate and address obstacles
impacting a patient’s ability to communicate and swallow, as well as
A Day at Tanner Rehab Facility
What might a day at Tanner Rehab Facility look like? The following is a sample of a typical day of care at the facility. Each patient’s plan of care is individually tailored for his or her specific needs to ensure the best possible outcome for his or her particular condition, so some variations in this schedule may occur depending upon the patient’s unique needs.
- 6 to 8 a.m. — Nurses change shifts, make rounds, provide morning medications and help patients prepare for their day
- 7:45 a.m. — Breakfast
- 8 to 11:45 a.m. — Therapy sessions, wound care/dressing changes
11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. — Lunch in the dining room
12:45 to 4:45 p.m. — Therapy sessions, afternoon medications given
5:30 p.m. — Dinner in the dining room
7 to 10 p.m. — Nurses change shifts, make rounds, provide evening medications and assist in the activities of daily living
Physicians make rounds daily during various times
At Tanner, part of the treatment philosophy is to encourage loved ones to take an active role in each patient’s care.
Since each patient’s days are filled with many scheduled therapies, Tanner encourages friends and family to arrange visitations from 4 to 9 p.m., Monday through Friday, and from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on weekends and holidays.
Adult supervision of children is required at all times in the facility. For the safety of patients and children alike, children may not visit patients who have been placed in contact isolation.
