Tanner Hospice Holiday Food Sale Raises More Than $16,200

Marking its 20th year as a local holiday tradition, Tanner Hospice Care raised more than $16,200 during its annual holiday food sale on Nov. 19 at the First Baptist Church in Carrollton.

Volunteers for the 20th Annual Hospice Food Sale prepare for the arrival of shoppers eager to purchase holiday treats.

An estimated 300 people came to the 20th Annual Hospice Food Sale to purchase casseroles, pies, cakes, breads and other treats prepared by area “chefs.” One-hundred percent of the funds raised from the food sale, as well as from individual donations, will be used to supplement patient care expenses, such as medications, supplies and medical care.

“For 20 years, community support of the Hospice Food Sale has helped make a difference in people’s lives,” said Debbie Brock, director of Tanner Hospice Care, part of Tanner Health System. “Everyone deserves the chance to have their final days at home in the company of the people they love. Through the generous support of our community, Tanner Hospice Care makes this option possible in west Georgia.”

Tanner Hospice Care uses a team of doctors, nurses, home health aids, social workers, counselors, chaplains and volunteers to provide medical, emotional and spiritual assistance for patients and families.

Brock said that it is the hard work by so many in the community every year that makes the sale a success.

“We are so grateful for the talented chefs who prepare the delicious food, companies that donate supplies and equipment, volunteers who manage the sale, organizations that help publicize and promote the sale and community members who line up to make their purchases,” said Brock.

One organization that has supported of Tanner Hospice Care since 2003 is Carrollton High School’s Health Care Science Students of America (HOSA). During a seven-year period, Carrollton High School’s HOSA has held student parking place raffles, change drives and other fundraisers to donate more than $37,000. In addition to donating funds, Carrollton High School HOSA members volunteer with the food sale.
