New Short Stay Atrium Opening Nov. 26 at Tanner Medical Center/Carrollton

Posted Date: 11/21/2012

Delayed but undeterred, the new short stay atrium at Tanner Medical Center/Carrollton will open to patients and visitors on Nov. 26.

Originally slated to open in September, a ruptured fire suppression line in the new emergency department sent more than 12,000 gallons of water flooding into the hospital’s expansion. The water also damaged offices and public spaces located below the new emergency department, requiring the hospital to keep closed its new space.

Since then, crews have continued to complete repairs to the new emergency department, which is expected to open in early 2013. The hospital has continued to provide 24-hour emergency medical services in its existing emergency department.

The new atrium, located along Clinic Avenue, will provide easy access to the hospital’s expanded surgical services unit, as well as registration services, the Lamplighter gift shop and Bistro ’49, serving specialty sandwiches, pastries and Starbucks coffees. Additional parking also will be available for surgical services patients, and complementary valet service will be provided. The atrium will open at 5:30 a.m.

“Opening this atrium is a crucial step toward realizing the new level of care and comfort this expansion makes available at Tanner Medical Center/Carrollton,” said Loy Howard, president and CEO of Tanner Health System. “We’re proud that this part of the expansion has rebounded so quickly from the damage caused by the ruptured water line a few months ago, and we’re grateful for the staff and crews that have been so diligent in making sure that we could open this part of the expansion as quickly as possible. It’s fortunate that this disruption did not impair our ability to provide patient care, and we appreciate the understanding and support of our visitors and patients.”
