David Shepard, MD, Joins Northwest Georgia Oncology Centers, Tanner’s Medical Staff

David Shepard, MD, has joined Randall Pierce, MD, Bradley Larson, MD, and the patient care team at Northwest Georgia Oncology Centers and the medical staff of Tanner Health System.
Dr. Shepard became interested in a career in medicine after seeing how it offered a unique opportunity to blend his love of science and his love of helping people.
“I’ve always enjoyed biology and science,” said Dr. Shepard. “Being a physician, I get to pursue science, but I also get to have that special interaction with people that I enjoy. I’m able to see how advancing science directly improves the lives of the people for whom I provide care, and that’s very special to me.”
Medical oncology provides further access to the science of medicine, according to Dr. Shepard, because of all the other medical specialists with whom he works to treat the whole patient, and not just the patient’s cancer.
“Coming to practice with Tanner and Northwest Georgia Oncology Centers was a unique opportunity,” said Dr. Shepard. “I am benefiting immensely from the mentorship of my partners here, Dr. Pierce and Dr. Larson, and this has been a wonderful community for my family. My daughter’s already cheerleading with the Carrollton Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Department, and we’re looking forward to being long-time Trojans like many of our neighbors.”
Dr. Shepard earned his medical degree from the Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis, Ind. He completed a residency in internal medicine at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis and a hematology/oncology fellowship at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Mich.
