Bikers Battling Breast Cancer Donates $25,000 for Breast Cancer Patients

Posted Date: 10/17/2011

Bikers from across Georgia came together in July for “Curves & Chrome,” a weekend of fundraising filled with music, vendors and motorcycling from Lithia Springs to Carrollton and culminating in a $25,000 gift to Tanner Breast Health during Breast Cancer Awareness Month to fight breast cancer in west Georgia.

More than 800 participants registered for “Curves & Chrome,” and more than 1,000 people joined the party at Carrollton’s VFW Post 7404. Bikers Battling Breast Cancer, Inc. began as a single event in 2006 and grew into an incorporated charitable organization in 2008.

Bikers Battling Breast Cancer has supported Tanner Breast Health for many years, through gifts supporting breast health education as well as “Courage Kits” specially designed to help Tanner breast cancer patients manage their cancer care with a binder, books, a water bottle, a tote bag and a stress ball.

“It’s a wonderful feeling, especially when you're able to make donations like this,” said Lisa Herman, president of Bikers Battling Breast Cancer, Inc. “It’s so important that the money stays local, and what's so exciting about this is the opportunity to actually help change someone's treatment cycle.”

The $25,000 raised from “Curves & Chrome” establishes deeper relationship between Bikers Battling Breast Cancer and Tanner Medical Foundation, which has launched a new Bikers Battling Breast Cancer Fund that will help breast cancer patients with critical testing, such as stereotactic breast biopsies, breast ultrasounds, computed tomography (CT) scans, positron emission tomography (PET) scans, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans and BRCA genetic testing.

“We are proud to call Bikers Battling Breast Cancer our partner,” said Denise Taylor, president and CEO of Tanner Medical Foundation. “Lisa’s vision of making a real impact for breast cancer patients has come to fruition. We are grateful to Lisa and the entire Bikers Battling Breast Cancer organization, and we look forward to continuing our partnership in support of local breast cancer patients.”

The next “Curves & Chrome” event will be held Sunday, July 22, 2012. For more information, visit www.bikersbattlingbreastcancer.org
