Tanner Medical Foundation presented the third annual Spirit of Giving award to Lisa Herman, president of Bikers Battling Breast Cancer, Inc., at their annual donor appreciation luncheon on Wednesday, November 2.
The Spirit of Giving award honors an individual who has touched lives through the giving of both time and financial assets in support of Tanner Health System and has taken steps to ensure the tradition of philanthropy is continued by future generations.
Herman’s organization donated $25,000 to launch the new Bikers Battling Breast Cancer Fund to will help breast cancer patients with critical testing, such as stereotactic breast biopsies, breast ultrasounds, computed tomography (CT) scans, positron emission tomography (PET) scans, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans and BRCA genetic testing.
“Lisa has nurtured a single fundraising event in 2006 into a dynamic philanthropic organization capable of making a donation of $25,000,” said Susan Fleck, Chair of Tanner Medical Foundation’s Board of Directors. “This year, her primary fundraising event brought together more than 1,000 people for a July weekend filled with music, vendors and “fun” raising all in the name of breast cancer.”
Upon receiving the Spirit of Giving award in a pre-recorded video, Mrs. Herman remarked, “I am honored that you have chosen me to receive the Tanner Medical Foundation Spirit of Giving Award.” Speaking about the Bikers Battling Breast Cancer Fund, she said, “I feel that this is something that could make a difference in the lives of the women and the families of west Georgia. So I am honored to accept this award not only on my behalf and on behalf of the members of Bikers Battling Breast Cancer, but on the behalf of all of the women and the families of west Georgia that will benefit because of this.”
“You honor us with your presence,” said Denise Taylor, president and CEO of Tanner Medical Foundation, to the audience of Tanner Medical Foundation donors, “and the confidence you have in us by partnering with Tanner Medical Foundation to carry on the tradition that began over sixty years ago to bring quality healthcare to our community.”
