Tanner Opens New MS Center at Tanner Medical Center/Villa Rica

Posted Date: 1/20/2012

Tanner Health System is making leading-edge care for people with multiple sclerosis more accessible and convenient with the opening of the Tanner MS Center at Tanner Medical Center/Villa Rica.

Tanner will host an open house at the new center from 2 to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 25. The new Tanner MS Center is located in Suite 102 on the ground floor of the VillaWest medical office building adjacent to Tanner Medical Center/Villa Rica, at 601 Dallas Highway in Villa Rica.

The Tanner MS Center will be staffed with neurology specialists who – along with being on Tanner’s medical staff – also serve on the medical staff of the esteemed Multiple Sclerosis Center of Atlanta, in addition to medical infusion experts on staff at Tanner Medical Center/Villa Rica.

The center is designed to be accessible and accommodating to MS patients, from its accessible location on the ground floor of the medical office building to the specially designed chairs that make treatments easier on patients and doors that open with the wave of a hand to make the facility easier to navigate.

The Tanner MS Center at Tanner Medical Center/Villa Rica will offer infusion therapy services for people with MS, chiefly the medication natalizumab (brand name: Tysabri) – a prescription medicine for adult patients with relapsing forms of MS. The medication slows the worsening physical disability that is common among patients with MS and helps to decrease the number of relapses. The therapy is recommended for patients who have not been helped by, or who cannot tolerate, other treatments for MS.

Natalizumab is not a cure for MS, but rather, an opportunity for patients to still be able to live an active life while limiting the debilitating symptoms of their disease.

As Tanner’s relationship with the Multiple Sclerosis Center of Atlanta and its medical staff grows, the Tanner MS Center will continue to expand the services and treatment hours at the Tanner MS Center.
