Prenatal classes at Tanner Medical Center/Carrollton are held in the Health Education and Wellness Learning Center, located on the first floor of the hospital just off the atrium facing Dixie Street. Parking is available in the parking deck adjacent to the hospital near the corner of Dixie Street and Ambulance Drive.

Birthing Experience
This class teaches the stages of labor and how to tell true labor from false labor. Participants can learn about the birth process, pain relief options and their recovery after delivery. This class is a prerequisite for the Preparation for Birth Workshop.
Breastfeeding
New mothers can learn how to get breastfeeding off to a good start, how to cope with common problems and why breastfeeding is very important to mother and baby. Fathers and grandparents are encouraged to attend.
Breastfeeding: A Working Mother’s Dilemma
Participants can learn about workplace options for breastfeeding, such as breast pumping and storage of breast milk. Learn how you can secure the support of your employers, childcare providers and family members.
Cesarean Prevention
This class is designed to teach expectant parents when a cesarean section is necessary and how to reduce their risk of needing a cesarean. This class is a prerequisite for the Preparation for Birth Workshop, and includes a tour of the W. Steve Worthy Maternity Center.
Coach's Clinic
The Coaches Clinic will give moms-to-be and their birthing partner the information and skills they need for a positive birthing experience. Couples will need to bring four to five pillows and a blanket. Wear comfortable clothes and be prepared to be on the floor. We strongly recommend attending our Birthing Experience and Cesarean Prevention classes prior to attending this class.
Expectations
This class takes a humorous look at what new parents can expect after the birth of their baby, including the areas of their lives that will change and tips to cope with those changes. New parents can learn to adjust to their baby’s temperament, how to calm a crying baby and the warning signs of postpartum complications and postpartum depression. Fathers are encouraged to attend!
Happiest Baby on the Block
Learn how to use a baby’s natural reflexes to soothe crying and colic. Registration is required, and there is a cost for this class.
Newborn Care
This presentation is led by a pediatrician and covers the appearance and reflexes of a healthy newborn, as well as information on car seat safety, preventing sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS), determining when the baby is sick and more. The pediatrician also will discuss what is important in choosing a physician, rooming-in options for newborns, infant security and options for circumcision.
Sibling Class
This is a chance for new big brothers or big sisters to learn their roles as they develop a relationship with the new arrival. Children aged 3 to 9 will get to see a baby at the nursery window. There is no fee for this course, but registration is required.
