H.D. and Annette Tyson were introduced by their life-long friend, Larry Boggs, as the Honorary Chairs of the 2013 Magnolia Ball at the kick-off reception on Jan. 20, 2013.
While some people are content to remain uninvolved where they live, service is part of H.D. and Annette Tyson’s nature. H.D. Tyson is a local hero for having served in Patton’s 3rd Amy fighting in the 276th Field Artillery Battalion. His unit was attached to the 4th Infantry Division stationed along the frontline of one of World War II’s most famous battles, The Battle of the Bulge.
After serving in the army, H.D. and Annette started their family and with the arrival of boll weavils, H.D.’s profession changed from farmer to residential carpenter. His “hands on” experience helped him grow into one of the most respected real estate developers in the state.
The family found many ways to serve the community in church ministries at Flat Rock Baptist and Villa Rica First Baptist Church, as band parents and serving on the school board. In 1962, H.D. was elected to the Villa Rica City Hospital Board, later serving as chairman.
H.D. helped secure the hospital’s future through a merger with Tanner Health System. He served on the Tanner Medical Center Board of Directors for eight years. Serving as Honorary Chairs of the 2013 Magnolia Ball, “Apodrasi se Santorini” (Escape to Santorini), is a fitting tribute to the Tysons for their many years of community service.
