About Our Staff

Tanner's emergency departments—the most modern in west Georgia

The emergency departments at Tanner's hospitals are staffed with skilled, compassionate physicians, nurses and technicians.

Some of the emergency department’s nursing personnel have advanced training, such as certification in:

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - ACLS refers to a set of clinical interventions for the urgent treatment of cardiac arrest and other life-threatening medical emergencies, and the knowledge and skills to deploy those interventions. Mastery of ACLS requires extensive medical knowledge and rigorous hands-on training. Only qualified healthcare providers (e.g. physicians, paramedics, nurses, respiratory therapists, clinical pharmacists and other specially trained healthcare providers) can provide ACLS, as it requires the ability to manage the patient's airway, initiate IV access, read and interpret electrocardiograms and understand emergency pharmacology.
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - Conditions such as respiratory failure, shock, cardiopulmonary arrest and dysrhythmias in children differ from those in adults. In 1988, the American Heart Association implemented the Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) program. PALS courses, sponsored by the American Heart Association, offer medical professionals the knowledge and skills needed to care for seriously ill or injured children.
  • CEN (Certified Emergency Nurse) - While many nurses help patients in a critical phase of illness or injury, an emergency nurse must be particularly skilled at dealing with patients when a diagnosis has not yet been made or the cause of the problem is not known. The CEN® certification measures the attainment of a nursing knowledge pertinent to emergency nursing.
  • TNCC (Trauma Nurse Core Curriculum) - TNCC certification provides nurses who work in emergency and intensive care nursing, with core knowledge and skills to care for trauma patients, including mastery of airway management, initial assessment, multiple trauma interventions, spinal immobilization and splinting.
