Pianist, Charlene Wiggins, performs a combination of hymns, folk songs and classical music as part of Tanner Health System's Harmony for Healing music therapy program. Selections include "The Lord's My Shepherd", "Londonderry Air", "Celtic Celebration" and "Romance in F major" by Johannes Brahms. Wiggins grew up in Oakland, California where she began piano lessons at the age of six. By the time she reached high school, she was accompanying choral groups at church and school. Wiggins and her husband spent 30 years in the Baptist Church ministry where she played piano and organ. She received a BA in Music from Brewton-Parker College and a Master’s Degree in Piano Performance from the University of West Georgia. She currently teaches piano lessons and is the organist at Tabernacle Baptist Church in Carrollton, Georgia. All Harmony for Healing performances are held in the John H. Burson III, MD, Atrium on the first floor of Tanner Medical Center/Carrollton, facing Dixie Street, and are free to the public. Unless otherwise noted, all performers are from the west Georgia area. The music therapy program is funded through gifts to Tanner Medical Foundation. Proceeds are used to continue Harmony for Healing performances with the goal of hiring a full-time music therapist.
