Vocalist and pianist Joe Garrett performs the soothing sounds of Frank Sinatra, Billy Joel, Elton John, the Commodores and Tony Bennett as part of Tanner Health System’s Harmony for Healing music therapy program. Garrett, a native of Carroll County who was born at Tanner Medical Center/Carrollton, began his music career in elementary school when he performed as Elvis in front of his third grade class. As a teenager, he taught himself guitar and eventually landed a spot in the band 2x2, performing six shows per night at Noah’s Ark in Panama City Beach. Since graduating from the University of Georgia in 1991, Joe has performed with the bands Nymrod Jones, Corn, Harlan Pepper & the Mayflower Kennel Club, Chute Rooster, Jones’n for Haggard, Bubba Bean and the 4 Man Power Trio and Mr. Christmas and His All-Star Band. In 2011, he began to study the piano under the instruction of Terry Lowry. Garrett serves as the CEO of Garrett & Robinson Investment Management & Wealth Planning in Carrollton, and also is a columnist for the Times-Georgian. All Harmony for Healing performances are held in the John H. Burson III, MD, Atrium on the first floor of Tanner Medical Center/Carrollton, facing Dixie Street, and are free to the public. Unless otherwise noted, all performers are from the west Georgia area. The music therapy program is funded through gifts to Tanner Medical Foundation. Proceeds are used to continue Harmony for Healing performances with the goal of hiring a full-time music therapist.
