Joe Lipham, DDS, pianist, performs classical pieces as well as lighter fare, including Gershwin “pops”, as part of Tanner Health System's Harmony for Healing music therapy program. The first part of his program includes compositions by Frederic Chopin, Claude Debussy, Ignace Paderewski and Edvard Grieg. The second half of his program highlights movie themes, familiar music and popular songs. Those by George Gershwin include “Swanee”, "Fascinating Rhythm", “Someone To Watch Over Me”, “’S Wonderful”, “The Man I Love”, “Embraceable You”, "They All Laughed", “I Got Rhythm” and “Love is Here to Stay”. Lipham studied music for 10 years under the late Mary Lou Munn, a music professor at the University of West Georgia. He holds a bachelor's and doctorate from Emory University, and his performance selections are derived primarily from the Romantic and Contemporary Periods. All Harmony for Healing performances are held in the John H. Burson III, MD, Atrium on the first floor of Tanner Medical Center/Carrollton, facing Dixie Street, and are free to the public. Unless otherwise noted, all performers are from the west Georgia area. The music therapy program is funded through gifts to Tanner Medical Foundation. Proceeds are used to continue Harmony for Healing performances with the goal of hiring a full-time music therapist.
