Pianist David Heck performs his own compositions of familiar old hymns as part of Tanner Health System’s Harmony for Healing music therapy program. Heck, a native of Newnan, Georgia, has enjoyed a varied and interesting career that includes faculty member of Gupton-Jones College of Mortuary Science, high school English teacher and statistician for the Georgia State Fire Marshall Office. His first love, however is music, discovering this interest at a very early age. At the age of 18, Heck was the youngest member to be inducted into The American Guild of Organists. He continued his music study earning an A.B. degree at LaGrange College. Heck has served as organist/guest organist in many churches in Atlanta, Griffin, LaGrange, Smyrna, Newnan and Carrollton over a period of 32 years. All Harmony for Healing performances are held in the John H. Burson III, MD, Atrium on the first floor of Tanner Medical Center/Carrollton, facing Dixie Street, and are free to the public. The music therapy program is funded through gifts to Tanner Medical Foundation. Proceeds are used to continue Harmony for Healing performances with the goal of hiring a full-time music therapist.
