Tanner Health System works to provide members of the media with as much access to its facilities as possible while ensuring the privacy of its patients. Patients and their medical information are protected by the federal Health Insurance Privacy and Accountability Act, or HIPAA, as well as other federal and state laws and organizational policies.
To protect patient confidentiality, Tanner asks that members of the media make a request to be on Tanner property each time they wish to visit a Tanner facility, including hospitals, outpatient care centers and Tanner Medical Group practices.
Depending on circumstances that exist in individual areas of Tanner’s system, access to certain areas may be restricted. Certain areas are also particularly sensitive, due to the need to protect patient confidentiality or ensure the efficient delivery of patient care (for instance, emergency departments, intensive care units, maternity centers, labs, etc.), and access to these areas may be more prone to restriction than others.
Restrictions also may be placed on filming or photography to ensure patient privacy (i.e., avoiding photographs of computer monitors at work stations that might display patient information).
Access to Tanner facilities is protected and enforced by Tanner Security.
