New guidelines from the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists say that all pregnant women, regardless of age, should be offered screening for Down syndrome. Women ages 35 and older have been offered amniocentesis or chorionic villus sampling as a test for Down syndrome. The new guidelines say that all women should be offered an ultrasound and a blood test in the first trimester.
