Bone Densitometry

Bone densitometry is used primarily to diagnose osteoporosis and to determine fracture risk. The testing procedure measures the bone density of the bones of the spine, pelvis, lower arm, and thigh.

Women with osteoporosis are three times more likely to lose teeth than women without the disease, says the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases. Older women with osteoporosis also are more likely to have problems with dentures.
