Focus on Patient Safety
Patient Safety—Every patient's right, everyone's responsibility. When we speak of patient safety being everyone's responsibility, that not only means every leader, physician and staff member, but it also includes the patient. We are learning more and more from our own experience, as well as the literature, about the importance of including the patients and their families as part of the care process and treatment planning.
As the patient safety movement gains momentum, it is clear that patients and families must be adequately integrated into the systems we are striving to change. Not only are patients and families capable of actively participating in their own care, but this participation is a critical factor in helping to improve quality of care and safety. Going forward, Tanner Health System's processes will continue to not only encourage patients to be an active partner in their care to ensure safety, but also incorporate their thoughts and ideas when identifying potential system vulnerabilities and designing solutions to them.
In accordance with the National Patient Safety Foundation (NPSF), we envision that patients will eventually be empowered to say, "Nothing about me, without me."
