Throughout all orthopedic patients' hospital stay, the recovery process is continually monitored. Many patients who have orthopedic procedures require rehabilitation services following surgery. Physical and Occupational therapists are available to work with patients at bedside within the first days following surgery. In addition each surgical patient has a Case Manager assigned to review their care and to help coordinate services and equipment if ordered by the physician upon discharge from the hospital.

Follow-Up Care

Patients who have a longer medical recovery or who live at home alone with no one to help often benefit from a brief admission to a skilled nursing facility for additional therapy and skilled nursing care. Patients may choose from a number of extended care facilities in the West Georgia area, including Tanner Skilled Nursing, conveniently located within the Tanner Medical Center / Carrollton facility.

Home health care, including physical and/or occupational therapy may be prescribed for patients returning home following their hospital stay or recovery in an extended care facility. This service is available through Tanner Health System.

Outpatient physical and/or occupational therapy is often prescribed for patients returning home to help them become more independent and to resume more normal activities of daily living. Tanner Health System is pleased to offer this service as well. Tanner's therapists work closely with the patient and the physician to meet the prescribed goals.
