Cardiac Progressive Care Unit
Tanner Medical Center/Carrollton’s highly skilled professional staff of physicians and nurses in its Cardiac Progressive Care Unit treats patients suffering from angina, heart failure, arrhythmia, post-cardiac catheterization, post-pacemaker insertion and/or heart attack.
The dedicated team of medical professionals has rigorously studied and trained to care for patients on a variety of intravenous cardiac medications, such as cardizem, amiordarone, lidocaine, nitroglycerin, natrecor, dobutamine, dopamine, integrilin and primacor. Medical staff and hospital personnel also counsel and educate families regarding how the disease may be expected to progress over time, how it can be treated by a wide variety of medications and how to develop heart-healthy lifestyles.
Cardiac Rehabilitation
Tanner’s Cardiac Rehabilitation Services are designed to help patients with heart disease. Our program helps patients learn ways to maintain a healthier heart.
Note: Before beginning an exercise regime, patients must wait three weeks after cardiac intervention or four weeks after open-heart surgery.
At Tanner Medical Center/Carrollton, there are three phases of cardiac rehabilitation:
-
Inpatient - This phase begins while the patient is still in the hospital. A cardiac rehabilitation nurse or exercise physiologist assesses the patient’s risk factors, educational needs and activity level.
-
Immediate Recovery – This is a medically supervised exercise-based program to help strengthen the heart. The program also provides participants with education and strategies for living a heart-healthy lifestyle.
-
Wellness Visits – During this phase, patients continue an exercise program while Tanner staff monitors their progress (blood pressure, behavior changes reinforced) on a regular schedule of visits.
Cardiac rehabilitation also offers strength training and flexibility exercises.
Intensive Care at Carrollton
Tanner Medical Center/Carrollton’s new 12-bed Intensive Care Unit (ICU) opened in 2003 to treat patients with acute illnesses such as hemodynamic instability (irregular heart rhythms and unstable blood pressures) that require intensive monitoring and intervention by trained medical staff.
Tanner Medical Center’s ICU also offers a family-centered environment with open visitation and provisions for family needs, such as private waiting rooms adjacent to their loved one’s ICU bed. A dedicated medical director and nurse practitioner are on site to assist in the provision of intensive clinical care.
